What is the Virtual Learning Academy?

The VLA is a program within the El Rancho Unified School District designed to respond to the student’s unique educational needs, interests, aptitudes, and abilities. Students are expected to work independently from home using a software program designed to meet the academic requirements for their grade level.

 

Where is the VLA located?

The VLA Learning Center is located at the Ruben Salazar High School campus at 9115 Balfour Street, Pico Rivera, CA 90660, Room 32.

 

I don’t live within the ERUSD school district boundaries. Is my child eligible to enroll in the VLA?

Your child may be able to enroll through an inter-district permit. For assistance with permits please contact our program secretary at (562)801-7686.

 

Will my child be able to get a high school diploma from the VLA?

We offer a complete academic program that includes all classes required for high school graduation and admission to college. The curriculum and graduation requirements are identical to traditional schools throughout our district. Upon successful completion of all mandated courses and assessments, students earn an ERUSD high school diploma.

 

Can my child return to their traditional school after attending the Virtual Learning Academy?

Yes, they can. For some students, the goal is to return to their traditional schools. Students are required to complete a full grading period prior to returning to their home school.

 

My child has special needs and has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Am I eligible to enroll them in the VLA?

Prospective students with IEP’s are to contact their IEP team/Special Education department to determine if placement is appropriate. Please contact the Special Education Department at (562)801-7370.

 

How do I enroll my child in the VLA?

Prior to the beginning of the school year, perspective families will need to apply through our website link conveniently located on the main page. After the school year begins, families will need to meet with their school counselor/administrator to discuss appropriate placement in the program. All applications will be completed online. You will be notified within 7-10 days of the status of the application.
